About the role
GrowCentric runs on Ruby on Rails and a Next.js marketing site, with a crawler fleet, a pricing engine and an AI copilot on top. Right now one person builds all of it. You change that: as founding engineer you take real ownership of the codebase, shape its architecture while it is still young, and ship features that more than ten pilot shops use the same week.
This is an early stage role in every honest sense: broad scope, direct customer contact, no layers between you and the decision. You will sometimes fix the crawler at nine and design a schema at eleven. If that sounds like energy rather than chaos, we should talk.
What you will do
- Ship features across the whole stack: Rails, Postgres, Hotwire, Next.js and Tailwind
- Own the crawler fleet with its politeness rules, monitoring and EU hosting
- Turn models from the data science side into production features with guardrails and logs
- Keep the platform boringly reliable while shops sleep and the engine reprices
- Talk to pilot shops, hear what hurts, and ship the fix that same week
What you bring
- Strong Rails and solid frontend experience, with production systems you are proud of
- Comfort owning infrastructure: deployments, monitoring, databases, queues
- A bias for shipping small and often, with tests where they earn their keep
- Plain language: you can explain a technical trade to a shop owner
- The right to work in the UK; we cannot support visa sponsorship
Nice to have
- Experience with eCommerce platforms, Solidus or Spree in particular
- Crawling, scraping or anti-bot experience
- A shop, side project or product you ran yourself
Compensation
From £85,000, very competitive and rising with experience
Hybrid across the UK: work from home plus WeWork locations in London and worldwide. You must already have the right to work in the UK; we cannot support visa sponsorship.
Please note: we do not accept applications from freelancers, the self employed or agencies.
